Emotional intelligence is a key ingredient in all of the leadership training that I create. I refer to emotional intelligence as one’s ability to manage their own emotions, and the emotions of those around them, during difficult to manage situations.
A company’s culture embodies how employees interact and work together. Establishing and protecting your culture is a crucial aspect of growing your company. A decision to define that culture is a personal decision, and it’s going to look different for everyone, but it is equally as important no matter the industry you work in. That’s why I asked Aaron Nursey, President of Direct Componentsto join me on the RedRock Leadership podcast. Aaron started his company in 1998, and I’ve known him for about four years. Working together, we’ve seen his company culture transformed in a powerful way, and I wanted him to share the behind-the-scenes of that process.
What is the difference between leadership and management? It’s a question everyone is asking. Type it into Google and you’ll receive just over two hundred million results. If you ask me, I’ll tell you that leadership is conceptual, management is tactical and there’s a strong demand in today’s culture for great leaders.
Yes, you read that right. There truly are five generations in the workplace today, and it’s presenting unique challenges for emerging growth business owners and leaders. Each generation brings with it its own unique view of the world and the workplace. What makes this even more challenging is the frantic pace of change we are experiencing – it affects not only our business culture, but our everyday lives. How are business owners supposed to grow their companies and build strong teams with these challenges?
If you’re involved in running a business, you know there are challenges. You’ve probably handled your fair share, but sometimes it can be difficult to determine how to resolve certain challenges, and in some cases, it might be necessary to bring in outside help. I’ve worked with 100’s of companies over the last 10 years, and I’ve worked with all different sized companies at different levels of various industries experience similar challenges. Now, the way the challenges manifest may be different, and we understand that the problem is unique for every company and should be treated as such. I know that locating the origination of these challenges and starting any resolution process from that point, is a key to helping my clients transform.
